DIY Pool Leak Check

In the spring or early summer, it’s important to check your pool for any leaks, or you might face a high water bill that you don’t need! Here’s how to check your pool for leaks:

  1. Track any water level drops over 24 hours. A drop of 1/2 inch or more may indicate a leak.
  2. Check your pump, filter, heater, and other equipment for any obvious leaks.
  3. Check stabilizer (CYA) levels. If it’s less than 50, you might have a leak on your hands.

If you suspect a leak, YardDoc can help you detect it and fix it fast!

How Long Should I Run My Irrigation For?

Watering needs vary depending on temperature and rainfall and also depending on how many days per week you water. In the peak of summer your garden needs 4.35 inches of water for the month. On average over the year – for twice weekly watering, run spray zones for 13 minutes and MP rotators for 50 minutes. To get an accurate measure of how long for your particular system – place an empty cat food tin on the floor in the zone and see how long it takes to fill to 2/3″ – that is how long you should run that zone for in total over a week.

Irrigation run times should be increased as we prepare for warmer weather and the growing season. Remember it is best to water for longer periods less frequently, also only water early mornings, not evenings.
